Actions and Progress to date

 

 

JUNE 2006

Research carried out into suitable building types

Appeal for help from the village to make this important decision

Land survey completed for suitability of the site near to the Village Hall

 

MAY 2006

Gift of a photocopier received from Stonetech Maintenance Services

Members visited 2 existing Community Shops for ideas and advice

Meeting with our solicitor and the Burghley Estate Manager

Quotations received from suppliers of modular buildings

 

APRIL 2006

Sub-groups set up to manage different aspects of the project

Grant awarded by the Rockingham Forest Trust

MARCH 2006

Over 100 people attended an Open Forum in the Village Hall

Parish Annual meeting discussed the concerns of the village

Exeter Arms site was revisited to try to re-position the Shop

The Barrowden and Wakerley Shop Ltd registered at Companies House

Site meeting with the Tree Officer from Rutland County Council

 

FEBRUARY 2006

Meeting with the solicitor appointed by the Pro-Help organisation

Meeting with County Councillors and Parish Council representatives

Posters displayed and flyers delivered to every household inviting the village to the Community Shop Open Forum in the Village Hall on March 4th

 

 

JANUARY 2006

Reply received from the Burghley Governors agreeing in principle to a Community Shop

Request to the Architect for a site visit to prepare a plan (Version 5) to take account of the comments and concerns from the neighbouring households

Meeting with Village Hall Committee to discuss latest plans and introduce our Consultant - Chris Fitzpatrick

 

DECEMBER 2005

Village Hall committee confirmed their requirements for car parking spaces

Plan (Version 4) drawn to meet the request

            from the Village Hall committee

Personal contact between representatives of the Community Shop group and the neighbouring householders to hear their concerns and comments on the latest proposal

Barrowden represented Rutland in the Calor Village of the Year Competition

The Barrowden Community Shop Project was presented with the Rural Revival Award for Enterprise in conjunction with the Calor Village of the Year Competition

This award is for £1000 and consultancy support for 5 days      

In the award ceremony hope was expressed that next year they would be congratulating the village on the successful opening of its Community Shop

 

NOVEMBER 2005

Site visit by the Highways Department

Confirmation of the Grant Awarded by Enterprise for Inclusion (£6000)

JULY 2005

- Community Shop Questionnaire

Delivered to 170 occupied houses

138 responses received   (81%)

80 % of these were positive

25 positive responses from the young persons questionnaire with many sensible suggestions

62 households offered financial support

14  people offered specific times to help in the shop

14  additional people offered their skills/expertise

Request for the site was evenly divided between

                      near to the Exeter Arms or the Village Hall

Members of the Community Shop group visited the Community Shop in Elston  (near Newark)

The concept of a Community Shop was displayed at the Village fete

Public Meeting held in the Village Hall

Volunteers formed a working group to explore the possibilities for a     Community Shop

First Community Shop group meeting was held on April 12th

 

JANUARY 2005

Parish Plan questionnaire showed 187 requests for a village shop
